One day in Amsterdam
Very few cities in the world would unfold a true, vibrant and genuine feel of it like Amsterdam does nearly every session of the year. The city, as natural as it might sound, hosts limelight and attraction wherever it is spread to; but most people remember their touring experience an unforgettable one because of its canals, classical and modern art museums, neighborhood, and of course foods! Read what all you can do in Amsterdam in a day!
If you have only a day, begin your tour by taking a canal boat cruise to get a glimpse of the city. Most of the tours usually last for as long as 90 minutes approx, but covers almost all the prime sights of the city. Where to catch the boats? Near Central Station, the Rokin canal near Squi Square, along the Leidsekade at the entrance to Vondelpark etc. FYI, Amsterdam has more than one hundred kilometers of canals, around 90 islands and nearly as many as 1,500 bridges.
After the cruise is done, live the architecture of Amsterdam’s Golden Age by walking along the historic canal ring. You might want to stop by the many Dutch styled Brown Café’s. Do not miss the French fries with mayonnaise, onion sandwich and many other local street delights.
Now, you might want to experience the awesomeness of art and thoughts by making your way to Museumplein to visit the Van Gogh Museum. The Rijksmuseum is also nearby. Other attractions include The Nine Streets – nine small streets between the Prinsengracht and the Singel. Away from the sounds and crowds, Amsterdam East is a vibrant neighborhood. If you can stretch your trip a little further, and can organize by clock, the UNESCO World Heritage site Kinderdijk with its old windmills, and flower park is a great place to visit.
If you are again feeling hungry mid-way, head to Chinatown near the Nieuwmarkt. The Thai or Indonesian Restaurants have been very popular here. The entire city vibrates with joy, purity and simplicity. There are so many things to do here that literally one blog or one day tour can not suffice all. Wish you a happy Amsterdam tour!
